Expat Therapist for Adults & Teens Living Abroad
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Social Work from the University of East London and a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services from Western Washington University. I have nearly two decades of clinical experience, and I am also a fellow global nomad who has called nine countries home.
I work with adults navigating international life and transitions, as well as the adolescents growing up in the middle of it. What sets me apart is that clients get both a seasoned therapist and someone who genuinely understands what it means to build a life across cultures. You do not have to explain the expat experience before you can start working on it.
I have been licensed as an LICSW in Washington State since 2011. I began as a school therapist in a Seattle public school, then counseled students at international schools in Brazil and Switzerland. My approach is person-centered and relational, integrating CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing, and my practice is LGBTQ+ affirming.
About J Kantor Expat Therapy
I built my practice around a gap I kept seeing as a therapist and a parent raising kids across cultures. Expat adults could often find support, but their teens rarely could. J Kantor Expat Therapy was founded to serve both, bringing over 15 years of clinical experience together with the lived understanding of someone who has navigated international life firsthand.
All sessions are online, 50 minutes, on a secure HIPAA-compliant platform, for adolescents 12 and up and adults. Therapy is CHF 160 per session (about USD 200), with limited sliding-scale spots, and I can provide monthly superbills. New clients can start with a free 15-minute consultation.
